Integrative Massage therapy is a treatment that involves the integration of therapy techniques from several different healing modalities. I offer therapeutic massage along with myofascial release, craniosacral, lymphatic, reiki, healing touch, cupping, reflex zone therapy and aromatherapy. Every session is individualized to meet mutual goals between client and therapist. Such goals could include pain relief, reduction in fluid retention, increased circulation, and of course relaxation. These are just some of the health benefits of integrative massage. Options for appointment length are 30 minutes ($40), 1 hour ($65), 1 hour and 30 minutes ($90), and 2 hours ($120).
One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Additionally Swedish massage techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It uses strong pressure; deep, slow strokes and cross-fiber friction. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Myofascial massage is a technique used to treat injuries and discomfort, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Myofascial massage differs from other types of massage in that it targets the fascia - the membrane surrounding muscles - rather than the muscle itself. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. While other forms of massage can overlook the fascia, myofascial massage focuses specifically on releasing tension in this important membrane.
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body's natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, I work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.
Reflex Zone Therapy is a massage of the hands and feet focusing on their ‘zones’. These zones correspond to various areas of the body and by massaging or applying pressure to these zones you help to stimulate those areas. It also improves circulation and lymphatic flow, and works to unblock nerve impulse pathways. I do some reflex zone therapy techniques in each massage.
Lymphatic Massage aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, Lymphatic Massage can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness.
Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork taliored specifically to meet the needs of pregnant the client. The trimester and health condition of the client will determine positioning on the massage table. The client will be made comfortable with pillows and bolsters.Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. Benefits of pregnancy massage include: headache relief, helps to alleviate morning sickness, reduces fatigue, enhances sleep, improves breathing, reduces swelling/edema, pain from varicose veins and leg cramps, helps correct postural imbalances, stimulates blood flow (prevents anemia) and prepares pelvic muscles for birth process.
Massage Cupping Therapy is a technique known as Fire Cupping, Body Vacuuming, or Cupping was an ancient Chinese healing practice. Cupping therapy is found throughout other cultures as well. Increasingly it is being recognized again in the modern world. Massage Suction cupping is a modernized form of Massage Fire Cupping therapy (Cupping and Massage combined). It adopts a suction gun to produce a negative air pressure vacuum inside cups, which have been placed on the skin. The suction works to release rigid soft tissues and muscles. The skin reddens after the cup is left in place for a few minutes (This therapy can sometimes cause discoloration of skin, called a ‘cup kiss’). The purpose of using cups in this way is to apply pressure for relaxation of muscles. It also stimulates ‘chi’ or energy flow to promote overall well being.
Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils or essential oils known as ‘the life blood of the plant’, for psychological and physical well-being. Each essential oil, like an herbal supplement has unique healing properties. In addition to essential oils, aromatherapy encourages the use of other complementary natural ingredients including cold pressed vegetable oils, jojoba oil, hydrosols, herbs, milk powders, sea salts, sugars scrubs, clays and muds. Products that include synthetic ingredients are frowned upon in holistic aromatherapy. It is important to note that perfume oils also known as fragrance oils (and usually listed as "fragrance" on an ingredient label) are not the same as essential oils. Fragrance oils and perfume oils contain synthetic chemicals and do not provide the therapeutic benefits of pure therapeutic grade essential oils. I use aromatherapy in most of all my treatments.
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.
